How iPhone is Different from Other Smartphones?

Well, there seems to be a never-ending battle between the iPhone and all the other type of smartphones on the market. While Android based smartphones do seem to be well in the game, iPhone still seems to be unparalleled when it comes to the popularity and brand reputation it boasts of.

iPhone vs other smartphones

That said, iPhone has been and still is quite a unique smartphone, although the market has now been flooded with a wide range of different smartphones. We will now be going through some of the major differences between the iPhone and other smartphones to give you a fair idea about what’s so different about the iPhone.

Operating System

First things first, the operating system is one of the major differences between the iPhone and the other smartphones. iPhone runs its own operating system, the iOS, while some other operating systems like Android support multiple brands. There are also other operating systems such as Symbian, Blackberry and Windows, but apparently, they are nowhere being as popular as the iOS or Android.

iOS

Now coming to what really makes the operating system different, it’s probably worth mentioning that as Apple has an operating system built just for itself, it runs very smoothly and without any bugs. On the other hand, Android smartphones used to come across a whole lot of stability issues, primarily including the system crashing down way too often.

However, this problem has almost been taken care of in the latest versions of Android, especially for the smartphones that run stock Android.

Coming to what is seen as a major problem with the iOS, it offers a surprisingly low level of customization. As the software is built and owned by Apple, it only does what Apple allows it to. Now although it can be ‘hacked’, it isn’t really a great solution given it’s actually your ‘own’ phone you are hacking and it can also result in some other issues over a period of time.

Android phones obviously have a huge upper hand on this front. It’s very customizable, and you can use it the way you want. What more, it even allows you to install apps outside of its Play Store, given that you’re willing to take the risk.

Applications

Now coming to what smartphones are really known for, there are a wide range of applications being offered on both the Apple’s App Store and the Google’s Play Store. However, Apple has quite a stringent process when it comes to approving apps.

The programmers looking to launch their apps on Apple’s App Store must use some special tools to build their apps, many of which come at a small price. Furthermore, all the apps apparently make it to the Apple’s App Store only after getting its approval. These measures are believed to ensure that only trusted and quality apps are actually offered to the iPhone users.

Apple's App Store

Despite the stringent approval process, however, Apple still has almost all the major apps the Play store does, and most of the major publishers choose to launch their apps first on Apple’s App Store before hitting Google’s Play Store.

On the other hand, Android’s Play Store makes it very easy for anyone to offer an app on its Play Store. In fact, it even allows installing third-party apps, although it does give a warning when a user tries to install such an app. However, what’s more surprising is that there are tons of malicious apps even on the Play Store, which raises concerns over the reliability of its applications.

Hardware

This is another major aspect where the iPhone differs greatly from all the other smartphones out there. Coming to a very important feature of a smartphone, the battery life, the iPhone doesn’t seem to be disappointing at all. It probably boasts of offering the longest battery life, thanks to the smaller screen size besides some other major factors.

The screen size, as already mentioned, is much smaller than most of the other high-end smartphones. However, the screen is still quite sharp, and is considered to offer the best pixel density.

Coming to the storage, it’s actually one of the biggest downsides of the Apple iPhone. It doesn’t have a slot for memory card, meaning that you will have to settle for the storage your device comes with. On the other hand, memory card slots are common in other smartphones, with some allowing users to increase the device’s storage by as much as 128 GB using a memory card.

Cost

The cost is probably one of the major reasons why many users choose an Android smartphone over an iPhone. The latter is probably costlier than most of the other high-end smartphones available on the market, especially for the specifications it comes with.

In other words, you could probably get an Android smartphone that comes with pretty much the same features and specifications as the Apple’s iPhone, but costs considerably less.

A final word

Well, it goes without saying that there doesn’t seem to be anything like a better choice between the iPhone and the other smartphones. As with anything else, it probably comes down to what your personal preferences are, and how much you are willing to pay.
