There are no doubts that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are currently the best smartphones produced by Apple. However, despite being part of the same collection, it looks like these models come up with a small competition too. Ask different people for their opinions and they will give you different answers. It is perfectly normal, since personal opinions are usually subjective. A real comparison goes farther than that though. You have to dig behind the personal preferences and check out technical specifications and capabilities. Apart from the size, there are other small details that can make the difference between iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, yet there are obviously a series of similarities as well. Making a good choice is a matter of education.
After many years in which the 4 inch diagonal was considered ideal for a smartphone (especially in terms of maneuverability), Apple has finally accepted the fact that more and more users look for wider screens. The reasons were quite obvious – a more pleasant experience, whether it comes to gaming, browsing or videos. As a direct consequence of this demand, the manufacturer has released larger smartphones for those interested in a wider working space.
With iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple has given everyone the opportunity to enjoy the full Apple experience. On one side, the 4.7 inch diagonal of iPhone 6 is said to be ideal for a smartphone. On the other hand, the 5.5 inch diagonal in iPhone 6 plus has the primary goal to satisfy the small category of fans who like “phablets” instead.

Main functions explained in small details – any differences?
Both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus borrow some of the design technology in iPod Touch and iPhone 5C, which is based on round and soft corners. It also comes with 6.8mm in thickness (iPhone 6) or 7.1mm (iPhone 6 Plus). When compared to the previous models, the new ones are slimmer. For example, the previous generation had 7.6mm in thickness.
The wide sizing standards of the screen have determined Apple to change the power button positioning. These days, it is placed on the top right side. Many smartphones based on Android come with this specification. It makes perfect sense though, since it is more intuitive and easier to press. At the same time, the Touch ID fingerprint reader has been slightly stylized. Its profile is more pronounced, while its functionality is drastically improved.
The IPS screen of iPhone 6 has a 4.7 inch diagonal and a maximum resolution of 1334×750 pixels. On the other hand, iPhone 6 Plus counts on a FullHD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Apple’s new resolutions allow a quick scalability of various applications from iPhone 5, 5S and 5C. Why? Easy. They are compatible. As a direct consequence, iPhone 6 users benefit from full functionality, without having to wait for farther adjustments and updates.
From a hardware point of view, you can forget about any revolutions. Apple uses apparently modest chipsets. However, they are well integrated with the iOS system, so they guarantee for a fluent usability in any situation. For iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the producer has come up with an Apple A8 chipset built on 64 bits. It comes with a solid 1.4GHz dual core processor. The M8 processor will only handle the health and running applications. As for the internal memory, the new model skips the 32GB version. You got 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.
Connectivity is complete and includes 3G connections with speeds of up to 54Mbps. The 4G speeds go to 300Mbps. You can also count Wi-Fi 802.11 ac and Bluetooth 4.0. If there is one major change from previous models, that is the NFC technology. It will most likely be used for electronic payments through the Apple Pay application. Users need to take the smartphone close to the payment device and press the Touch ID once the application is set. This application is not available all across the world though.
The iSight camera has kept its 8MP capacity, but it has a larger sensor. The result? Wide panoramas of up to 43MP, as well as a quick auto-focus function. iPhone 6 comes with a digital image stabilizer, while iPhone 6 Plus comes with an optical stabilizer. Videos can be shot in FullHD 1080p formats and 30 or 60 frames per second. Slow motion shooting is also allowed with 240 frames per second.
In terms of software, both smartphones come with iOS 8. The operating system is now available on older devices too. The interesting part is that iOS 8 has been specifically adapted to the impressive screen of iPhone 6 Plus, which supports landscape formats and many other interesting functions (some of them are not available in the portrait mode).
iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus – what should you choose?
What works for some people will not work for everyone. Therefore, you need to choose between iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with your need and preferences in mind. At a first glance, the size is the only major difference. iPhone 6 Plus is referred to as a “phablet” – a mixture of smartphones and tablets. It satisfies a limited segment of customers who want a deeper experience. Obviously, some features are directly proportional with the size, such as the maximum resolution and the battery size. On the other hand, there are no doubts that iPhone 6 is easier to maneuver. Since maneuverability is the main aspect to pay attention to, its sales are more impressive.
In terms of other specifications – such as software or cameras, among others, there are not any major differences between Apple’s latest smartphones. They are almost identical, with slight changes in the camera stabilizer.
